New Pioneer Co-op and ICARE's 20th Annual Pancake Breakfast Report

Once again the Pancake Breakfast was a success. We served 1260 Art Schut and Nicolas Graftbreakfasts. The official count of volunteers was 86, but we know that there were many more. At 6:00 AM, we began to set up in a light rain. It cleared by the time 8:00 arrived and breakfast was served. Amazingly, the rain held off until closing time, right at 1:00 PM. The entertainment was wonderful and food was delicious.

Nicolas Graft from That Cellular Place presented ICARE with a check for $855 from a local initiative that donates a percentage of the sale of red phones.

Art Schut, ICARE’s Executive Director, presented two plaques (one for each store) to Matt Hartz, General Manager of New Pioneer Co-op, for 20 years of support and service. The plaques read:Art Schut and Matt Hartz

New Pioneer Co-op
20 Years of Commitment

With sincere appreciation for outstanding support
of ICARE clients and our community
as primary sponsor of the Annual Pancake Breakfast

June 3, 2007

Some of my personal highlights included:

  • Volunteers dancing between tasks of pouring orange juice and serving coffee
  • Volunteers helping mothers with children and people with special needs through the line
  • Families spending time together volunteering
  • A line of people about 25 deep for pancakes

It lived up to the billing of “Great food, wonderful music, and good people for a worthy cause.”
